Professor of Anthropology
Anthropology Professor Connie Mulligan tracks genetic variation in modern humans to try to understand how the Earth came to be populated.
Over the past decade her genetic research has pointed toward Yemen as the place where migrating people would have first set foot as they left the Horn of Africa millions of years ago.
Initial results from analysis of DNA samples from more than 500 individuals from Yemen has found that Yemeni populations share many old genetic lineages with African populations as well as many lineages found outside of Africa.
This supports the idea of an ancient migration out of Africa into Yemen.
