Soil nutrient deficiencies and major hurricanes in 1926 and 1928 hindered early research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UF faculty in agronomy, horticulture, soil science and animal science soon began to develop management solutions that make Everglades agriculture possible. Research continues and is focused on designing the best management practices for the area\u2019s organic soil in order to improve water quality, reduce pesticide inputs, develop profitable crop varieties, and streamline crop and water management operations.
